Partner, Paul Hastings (Atlanta, GA):

While at Paul Hastings, Andy practiced in the areas of commercial law, licensing, intellectual property, trade regulation, franchise law - including disclosure and registration, and international franchising and distribution.

Andy was a member of the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association's Forum on Franchising ("Forum") and Chair of the International Franchising Committee of the International Bar Association ("IBA").

Andy primarily represented technology companies, software developers, product manufacturers and distributors, and franchisors. During his career, he served as lead counsel for domestic U.S. companies on transactions in Argentina, Canada, England, Italy, Thailand, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Mexico, involving large commercial transactions, asset acquisitions, joint ventures and master franchises, and has been involved in establishing licensing and distribution arrangements in Mexico, South Korea and France.

In 2004, Andy was selected to appear on the cover of the Georgia Super Lawyer magazine.

  • Andy is a co-author of the three volume work entitled Franchising Law: Practice and Forms (Specialty Technical Publishers, Inc.; ed. 2006)
  • He published articles relating to International Franchising in the Journal of International Franchise and Distribution Law and the International Business Lawyer. ("Extra territorial Application of U.S. Franchise Registration and Disclosure Laws in International Franchise Transactions" and "Technology Transfer Laws and International Franchising").
  • He authored numerous additional articles for scholarly publications.
Speaker and Presenter:

Andy has spoken on numerous occasions at the Forum on Franchising, the International Franchise Association Legal Symposium and before the International Franchising Committee of the IBA.

Andy has been a featured speaker on business law and hiring practices at Emory University Law School and other distinguished colleges.

UNC and USC Graduate

Andy received his B.A. degree in 1970 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree in 1984 from the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the publication editor of the Southern California Law Review.

At the University of North Carolina, Andy was a member of the 1970 Championship UNC lacrosse team, and was selected to the First Midfield of All-Conference team.

U.S. Navy Captain and Pilot
  • After leaving UNC and before entering law school, Andy was a U.S. Navy fighter pilot, flying the F-4 Phantom in VF-213 and as an instructor in VF-121. He has over 200 carrier landings and is a Centurion on the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63. Following his tour in VF-121, he transitioned to the F-14 Tomcat, and served as an instructor pilot with the Imperial Iranian Air Force.
  • After leaving active duty, he joined the Navy Reserves, flying with VF-301. He attained the rank of Captain and has since retired from the Reserves.
  • Andy was also a commercial pilot for American Airlines.
After 25 years of living in Atlanta, GA, he and his wife Lee now reside in the South Carolina Low Country.
